Have you ever woken up on a day when you know you’re going to be really busy and have to see a lot of people only to discover a huge zit on your face? It is one of the most frustrating things. I’ve been there plenty of times, and it can make me feel like my imperfections are jumping out at everyone I see and there’s nothing I can do about it. One of the best solutions is to have some really great products for getting clear skin.
Sure there’s makeup, but that can only do so much. And if you don’t have the right shade or it’s hot out or your skin gets dry then watch out because that makeup is likely just making things worse. That was my dilemma for years.
I started wearing foundation after high school, and once I started I didn’t feel like I could stop. Even during times when my skin was pretty clear, I felt hooked on foundation. I didn’t think my skin looked good enough without it.
Eventually, I ended up switching face products (not wanting to be beholden to Proactiv + the dermatologist anymore, even though the expensive system and prescriptions had made my skin really clear), and calamity broke out.
I cycled through a number of products before I found some that worked for me, and these are the ones that finally made my skin clear again. If you’ve been having trouble with your skin think about giving some or all of these products a try, and hopefully they can help you as much as they have me!
I started using Bioderma micellar water after reading in multiple places that this product is a must-have in France. Knowing what a big deal the French make of skincare, I decided to give this stuff a try.
In the past, I will admit to having a bit of trouble getting myself to wash my face every single night. I know this is one of the most important things to do for your skin, but I would get so tired at night and sometimes, if I had already lain down, that was that. Since I started using micellar water, though, that has not been a problem.
This is a combined face cleanser and makeup remover, so all I have to do now to wash my face is pour some micellar water on a cotton pad, rub my mascara off, pour some more on another cotton pad, and rub it over my whole face. And done! It’s so incredibly easy that I pretty much never feel tired enough to skip it. It just feels like ultimate laziness to me to not even be able to wipe my face with a cotton pad, so I do it, and it’s been keeping my face clean since I started.
This gel is so amazing because, due to the 2.5% benzoyl peroxide content, it is not drying like many other benzoyl peroxide products. It also comes in a giant tube.
I use this in the morning only (so I don’t stain my pillowcase) right after wiping my face with micellar water.
I love everything about this moisturizer. It comes in a pretty bottle, has an amazing texture, and keeps my face from getting dry all day.
Without a really good moisturizer, my skin can get dry spots during the day so I went with the intense version of Clinique’s moisture surge, although the regular is a great moisturizer too.
The bottle is kind of pricey, but the good thing is that the moisturizer is very thick and a little goes a long way so the bottle lasts a very long time. I only buy it once or twice a year.
I started using this after I went to the dermatologist and was given a prescription for a 20% azelaic acid cream. It turned out, though, that my insurance wasn’t going to cover it so I decided to find a substitute product (which I actually prefer anyway since I don’t like having to keep up with dermatologist appointments just to get skincare products).
This product was one of the closest percentage-wise I could find to the prescription so that’s what I’ve been using. I put it on at night after I use my micellar water, and it works as a light moisturizer and helps with acne.
Avene is a super popular brand of skincare from France that uses special thermal spring water from the Cévennes Mountains in Avène, France in all of their products. It sounded kind of weird to me for water to be such a big deal, but apparently people with severe skin conditions travel from all over the world to go in their spa.
I have a few of their products, such as body wash, and the one I use on my face is their acne clearing, Cleanance mask. I use it sometimes when I’ve had a rough day, skin-wise, and it does seem to help.
Bonus: EltaMD UV sunscreen (This one didn’t help clear my skin, obviously, since it’s a sunscreen, but I’m throwing it in because it’s a great facial sunscreen to add to your regime that is nonclogging.)
By using the products listed above not only have I been able to clear up my skin, but I have also shortened my nighttime and morning routines. Try them on your face, and you just may have some great results too.
