I am an avid board game lover. In fact, if it was up to me, we would play board games on the regular—like the involved, strategy filled kind that take several hours to complete. While I do have my favorites, I’m not terribly picky about what types I will play.
My husband, on the other hand…not so much. He doesn’t have much patience for board games, and it can be a struggle getting him interested in them. The pace of most games drives him crazy as he hates waiting for people to deliberate.
But while he is generally not a fan, through some trial and error I have been able to find some board games that he does like. In his case, it takes a game that is fast-paced, not very strategy heavy, and doesn’t take much deliberation.
If you are in a similar situation with a friend or spouse, or if you just love board games and are looking for some new games to try out, here are some games to consider based on different preferences.
For the social one who likes secrecy/betrayal themed games:
For the intense board gamer who likes a more involved game:
For the non-combative one who likes group cooperation:
For the video gamer who doesn’t usually like board games:
For the person who hates waiting for turns to play a game:
For the one who loves interactive, light-hearted party games:
Jackbox Party Pack 3
(Ok, that last one isn’t a board game, but I had to put it in because it’s a super fun party game. You can find it for sale on Steam or through the Xbox One, PS4, or Nintendo Switch.)
For the one who wants something to play with just one other person:
Whether you love board games and just want to find some new games to add to your collection or are looking for a specific kind of game to entice a friend or spouse, give some of these a try and you’ll likely have a great time!
